What is a Care Group?

It is like a ‘Good Neighbours’
Group. It is a group of people who have volunteered to help in any way they can, when asked.

How does the Care Group work?

The Care Group works from an ‘Office’–in–a–suitcase. The ‘Office’ contains all necessary information, like volunteers’ names and phone numbers etc., and the mobile phone.

Because it is in a small suitcase, the ‘Office’ can be passed among volunteers.  In this way different people can take turns in answering calls and organising Care Group Work.

How can the Care Group be contacted?

There is a Mobile Telephone number for the Care Group:

07711 425 366

Someone needing help, (or knowing someone who does), can ring that number.

The phone will be answered by one of the volunteers.

Whoever answers the phone and receives the request for help will do their best to find a volunteer who will be able to go and do whatever has been asked.

What kind of things will the Care Group do?

·        Shopping for someone.

·        Taking someone shopping (including people in wheelchairs).

·        Changing a library book.

·        Collecting a prescription.

·        Sharing a cup of tea and having a chat.

·        Playing a game (eg. Scrabble, dominoes, etc).

·        Helping with transport.

·        Enabling a housebound person to visit a friend, by car.

·        Cooking a light meal.

·        etc, etc, etc.

The Group does not claim to be able to solve every problem, but if they cannot do something themselves, they may know of some other source of help, that can.

We would hope that people will find us approachable, and that in a situation where there might seem to be no-one to turn to, that people will feel able to turn to us for help.
